HSE at the UK Garage and Bodyshop Event 2026
Join HSE at the NEC Birmingham on 3–4 June 2026 to hear the latest insight on managing risks from isocyanate exposure and preventing occupational asthma in motor vehicle repair businesses.
Each year, vehicle paint sprayers develop life-changing lung conditions linked to isocyanate exposure during spray painting activities. In some cases, workers are forced to leave the trade because of ill health.
HSE inspectors are visiting motor vehicle repair businesses across Great Britain to assess how risks from isocyanates are being managed during spray painting operations.
Employers must ensure risks are adequately controlled and that workers receive appropriate health surveillance and biological monitoring where required.
What to expect when the inspector calls
As part of the event programme, HSE specialists will share practical insight from recent inspection activity and explain what businesses can expect during an inspection.
On 4 June, Stephen Green and David Towler will speak in the Business Management Theatre on: ‘What to expect when the inspector calls’
The session will cover:
- what to expect during an HSE inspection
- findings from recent inspection activity
- the consequences of non-compliance
- control measures required during spray painting operations
Visitors can speak to the HSE team at the stand to get practical advice and access free guidance and resources.
