Protect your workers from noise and vibration. It’s the law.
Noise and vibration at work can cause serious, permanent health problems, including hearing loss, tinnitus, hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS) and carpal tunnel syndrome. Most of this harm is preventable with the right controls.
Around 15,000 workers experience hearing problems caused or made worse by workplace noise each year, and around 1 in 5 workers may be exposed to harmful noise levels.
Construction, manufacturing, utilities, agriculture and waste management workers are often exposed to harmful levels of noise and vibration, putting them at risk of permanent health damage.
If your workers are exposed to noise or vibration, you must assess the risks and put effective controls in place. This is a legal requirement under the Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 and the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005.
Start by assessing the risks to your workers.
