Yorkshire and the Humber workplaces targeted by Work Right campaign

As lockdown measures are eased, it is important for everyone to focus on keeping Covid-19 transmission rates down.

The Work Right campaign is part of a joint approach by the national health and safety regulator and local government partners to help smaller businesses across Yorkshire and the Humber continue to do all they can to suppress the pandemic across the region.

Work Right’s accessible resources, for both businesses and workers, provides guidance and support in what needs to be in place to deal with the risks of Coronavirus and what a worker can do to ensure they are working right or what to do if they are concerned about their safety in the workplace.

The Work Right campaign brings together the national regulator for health and safety (Health and Safety Executive (HSE)) and local government to work together to get the Work Right message to employers and workers across the region and to encourage everyone to take an active role in stopping the spread of the virus.

Employers must continue to have COVID-secure measures in place and, with a national programme of spot checks taking place to check on those measures, it is really important to get the Work Right messages to every business and for everyone to follow them. Workers should follow both the measures in place at work and the government guidelines on coronavirus outside of work. They should be aware of avoidable risks of infection, which could lead to them bringing the virus in to the workplace.

Bruno Porter, Acting Head of Operations, Yorkshire and North East, at the Health and Safety Executive said “We are conducting spot checks and inspections on businesses and whilst most businesses are doing the right thing, we still need to do more in reaching and helping those businesses who are unsure of what they need to do. This is the aim of Work Right. Not everyone is aware of their duties relating to the pandemic and how it applies to the work they do.

“Work Right in Yorkshire and the Humber is designed to get that message across and provides free, easy reads for smaller businesses and workers.

“Working in partnership, as the national regulator, we want to help businesses to protect the workers. Prevention in a pandemic is vital, not only for the health and safety of the workers, but for businesses to thrive and provide the essential services and goods we all need in our day to day lives.

“This means making adjustments in work and outside of work. The time is now to work right and keep working right so let’s work together to prevent transmission of the virus inside the workplace and think about how we can Work Right and help businesses and workers in Yorkshire and Humber, get back on their feet.
